Yeojin Bae SS 11/12

Yeojin Bae’s debut RAFW collection was feminine, classic and chic. Titled a very fitting, Premiere the collection featured layered slip dresses, skirts with knife pleats and soft blush hues. Sexy flashes of skin were balanced with a polished 30′s silhouette to create a perfectly romantic look. Sensual silk shirts and shapely body-con dresses showed off Bae’s razor sharp tailoring, which exuded subtle sex appeal and elegance. Every piece Bae delivered had an alluring air of self assured, relaxed femininity.

Stolen Girlfriends Club SS 11/12 collection was a breath of (grungy) fresh air at RAFW last week. Amidst countless shows featuring feminine designs and colour blocking, the Kiwi trio presented their collection, The Big Comedown with their usual bad-ass attitude. It was also one of the few shows to include menswear, which let’s face it, is definitely an under-catered market in Australia.
The Big Comedown was about falling in and out of love; exploring the dreamlike state of love and the pain and bitterness of being rejected. Divided into two parts, the show explored these contrasting emotions to create a raw, flirtatious, and gritty collection. Standouts for me were the flouncy dresses and floaty skirts in a whimsical floral print, and the hip deconstructed shorts that finished just above the knee. One for the cool-kids for sure.

Ellery SS 11/12

Ellery’s SS 11/12 collection was sophistication and tailoring at it’s finest. The presentation took place over two levels at the White Rabbit Gallery in Chippendale, where models slowly made their way around the venue in pairs. Sharp shoulders, sheer flares, geometric cut tunics and structured  jackets were all delivered with Kym Ellery’s impeccable eye for detail. The colour palette was cool and sexy; peachy hues and golden shades added femininity and elegance to the collection, while a vibrant chartreuse was the standout shade.

Ellery also surprised the auidence with a few offerings of menswear; long line knits, sharp shirting and boxy jackets in neutral, golden shades. Beautifully made, but still masculine thanks to clever tailoring and subtle minimalism. Ellery proved her cult status with this glamorous, intelligent collection.
