Stolen Girlfriends Club SS 11/12 collection was a breath of (grungy) fresh air at RAFW last week. Amidst countless shows featuring feminine designs and colour blocking, the Kiwi trio presented their collection, The Big Comedown with their usual bad-ass attitude. It was also one of the few shows to include menswear, which let’s face it, is definitely an under-catered market in Australia.
The Big Comedown was about falling in and out of love; exploring the dreamlike state of love and the pain and bitterness of being rejected. Divided into two parts, the show explored these contrasting emotions to create a raw, flirtatious, and gritty collection. Standouts for me were the flouncy dresses and floaty skirts in a whimsical floral print, and the hip deconstructed shorts that finished just above the knee. One for the cool-kids for sure.
